I’ll never forget the day I met Kobe Bryant. Just a few moments… but they left a lifelong impact. It wasn’t just what he said — it was how he carried himself, how he engaged with others, and most of all, how he made me feel.
That experience taught me something I now pass on to every athlete I work with: your presence matters — on and off the court. Here are 3 ways to make it count:
1. Acknowledge Others
Kobe had this ability to lock in on whoever he was speaking to — to make them feel seen. As a player, your simple “great pass” or “I got your back” goes a long way. When you acknowledge your teammates, coaches, and even opponents, you build trust and connection that elevates the whole team.
2. Stay Respectful
Respect was something Kobe demanded, but also gave. Respect your coaches, refs, teammates, and the game itself. Your reputation grows not just from how you play — but how you carry yourself. That consistency builds credibility and earns leadership without you having to say a word.
3. Be Fully Present Kobe’s focus was legendary. When you show up locked in — to practice, games, or team talks — people follow your lead. Presence is powerful. And being engaged not only sharpens your performance, it raises the standard for everyone around you.
Presence isn’t about being loud. It’s about being intentional. When you combine acknowledgment, respect, and engagement — your impact multiplies.
Let’s make every moment matter.
